Janet Wallace has been working as an artist and art educator for 30 years.  Janet has a Bachelor of Fine Art with a teaching degree in Art Education from NSCAD University in Halifax, Canada.  As an art student she had the good fortune to travel to many countries to study art.  Being exposed to the art of so many cultures gave Janet insight into the shared basic instincts that compel us to express ourselves creatively.  She refers to these expressions as "Art Marks" and started her creative ventures under this logo. In the early 80's, while living in Vancouver, Janet started hand-painting original tee-shirts and this mushroomed into doing other hand-painted items including umbrellas, duvets and interiors.  She also created original clothing designs and a line of silk-screened tees with an indigenous influence.  Janet produced a video of her Art Marks line  and did various fashion shows.  The clothing sold successfully in boutiques and department stores in Vancouver, Los Angeles, and New York. As an art instructor Janet has taught various courses and workshops over the years and continued to enjoy doing so in the 90's while living in Malibu, California. In 1999 Janet was offered the opportunity to do a mural in Los Angeles.   Since then she has done 23 large scale murals in Los Angeles, where she currently lives.  Many of these murals often have been at schools, portraying meaningful themes such as "Celebrating Ethnic Diversity."   In her personal artwork Janet explores ideas, emotions, and social issues through various media and materials often taking things out of their normal context.   Janet continues to pursue her own artwork, commissioned work, murals and teaching with a holistic approach and an emphasis on creative expression. contact@janetwallace-artmarks.com
